Guidance from Lasting

When couples asked for something more intimate and focused for those considering separation and divorce, we felt compelled to create something just for them.

We invite you to a very special, anonymous event focusing on discernment. Across two days, you'll come away with one of three decisions:

  1. Stay in the relationship (keep the status quo)

  2. Move toward separation and divorce

  3. Commit to six months of couples therapy, where separation and divorce are off the table

This two-day event is intended for couples or individuals who are contemplating separation or divorce.

This means at least one of you is feeling uncertain about staying in the marriage and you’re not sure how you want to proceed.

This event is not to work through relationship issues. The goal is for you and your partner to gain clarity on how to move forward.

Whether or not you decide to stay married, know that hope and healing are possible for you and your partner.

March 19th & 26th:
The Itinerary

All times are EST. If at any point you have to hop out, don’t worry. Everyone will get a recording of each session.

Day One, March 19th

Welcome: 12pm to 12:15pm

Before we start, grab a cup of coffee and meet Lyn Martin, our licensed therapist and your guide for the day.

Session 1, Telling the Story Together: 12:15pm to 1:15pm

In this session, you and your partner will share with each other your stories of what happened in your marriage that led to the point where divorce is on the table.

Lyn will guide you through how to share well and keep your conversation on track together.

Session 2, Leaning Out, Part 1: 1:30pm to 2:30pm

This session is designed for people who are leaning out of the marriage (considering divorce).

During this time, you will explore your ambivalence and whether the marriage is worth saving. You will identify your role in how your relationship has evolved and summarize your reasons for wanting to leave.

Session 3, Leaning In, Part 1: 2:45 to 3:45pm

This session is designed for the people who are leaning into the marriage (desires to stay married).

During this session, you will examine your emotions around the current state of your marriage. You will identify areas to take responsibility for and create a personal plan for change.

Session 4, Sharing Together: 4pm to 5pm

In this session, you and your partner will both come back together to share where you are in the discernment process and anything else you want your partner to know.

You will prepare for this session during your previous individual sessions.

Day Two, March 26th

Session 5, Leaning In, Part 2: 12pm to 1pm

In this session, you will continue to identify and process both your relationship dynamics and your responsibility within the interactions.

You will also finalize a personal plan for change that includes personal issues that will show up again in any future relationships.

Session 6, Leaning Out, Part 2: 1:15pm to 2:15pm

In this session, you will continue to explore your relationship dynamics and how you played a role in the development of your issues.

You will also continue to weigh the decision in front of you of what you want to do next.

Session 7, Sharing Together: 2:30pm to 3:30pm

In this session, you and your partner will come together to share where you are in the process.

This might look like sharing what you’ve learned, taking responsibility for certain actions, and/or sharing your personal plan for change.

And, you will check-in with each other about which of the three options on the table (stay in relationship as it is, move toward divorce, or commit to couples therapy), you are moving toward.

Session 8, Moving Forward: 3:45pm to 4:45pm

In this session, Lyn will walk you and your partner through the three different options on the table.

She will provide information on what each of these processes would look like and what support and guidance is available to you.
